The Lagoonies Club is a twice weekly day camp for kids aged 5 – 13 at the Iris Griffith Centre. Younger children, if accompanied by a parent or guardian, are also welcome. We host the day camp every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer from 10am to 2pm. For the 2017 summer season, our first camp date is June 28th, and our last is August 16th
With our fun and instructive activities, Lagoonies introduces kids to the weird and wonderful world of wetlands, builds artistic and scientific skills, and encourages everyone to respect the natural surroundings and become future stewards of the environment. A typical day with the Lagoonies might include:
- Pond dipping for aquatic insects and amphibians
- Short hikes around our beautiful 10 hectare property, or up the Suncoaster Trail to take in the incredible vista of Ruby Lake
- Playing nature-inspired games like “Sapsucker” and our popular Food Chain game!
- Small arts and crafts projects
Come take a closer look at nature!
Registration is a minimum $10 donation. Due to a high volume of Lagoonies in the 2016 season, we are now asking that you pre-register your children. Each day with Lagoonies there is a new theme to focus on the many exciting things to learn about the Sunshine Coast. Our Summer Students run the program, working hard to create new activities to do that revolve around our theme each day! With themes from Marine Mania to Marsh Monsters, there is something fun and new to learn every day! Pack a lunch, come dressed for the weather, and come play!
We've held over 100 Lagoonies Day Camps!
