2016 Annual General Meeting
Sep 28, 2016
The AGM was a huge success and we had over fifty attendees. It was so good to see so many people coming to support us and to learn more about PODS. It tremendous for us to see children, teenagers, students and families, and so many professional people as well as old codgers like us! It is not often that we see so many different generations of Sunshine Coasters all in one room! We are so lucky to have so many talented people living here and taking such an active part in protecting our precious natural resources. Thank you all for coming!!!
We are delighted to welcome our four new directors who bring with them such a wealth of experience from all walks of life.
Walter Kohli is the Manager of the Painted Boat in Madeira Park and has been responsible for numerous environmental initiatives around the globe, including the establishment of the Gunung Mulu National Park in Borneo. Walter is a huge supporter of the Lagoon Society and is fully behind the PODS project and is delighted to be invited to contribute his not inconsiderable skills and experience to our team.
Jim Cameron, who was born in Pender Harbour and has lived here ever since, graduated in Biology from SFU in 1984 and has been a commercial fisherman here for nearly thirty years as well as a professional biologist working on salmon populations in Sakinaw Lake. He brings a huge amount of knowledge of our oceans and the amazing marine life of our coast to the board table.
Robert Hynd, a graduate in Biology from the University of Saskatchewan who went on to study dentistry and moved here ten years ago and has established a booming dental practice. Robert and his family have been a huge supporters of the Lagoon Society for years and he loves to bring his children up to the centre to learn all about the natural world around us. He says he has yet to find one detractor to the PODS Enterprise and he gets to talk to many of us up close! He is passionate about PODS and is determined to bring the project to fruition for the good of generations to come.
Douglas Dunn, who studied at BCIT in Business Marketing and Communications in the late eighties and received an MBA in Business from SFU in 2000. Douglas has a wealth of business management experience and has worked for dozens of non-profits to help with fundraising and marketing campaigns. He is also an expert in green energy and in particular in solar power generation. He lives with his family in Vancouver but comes to the coast most weekends to stay at his cottage in Halfmoon Bay. He is very excited to be part of the Lagoon Society and is delighted to be able to join the PODS team.
Thank you all for agreeing to join us and we very much look forward to working with you in the years ahead.
