Polar Bears International
Jun 08, 2016
Polar Bears International is a great organization. Check out what they're doing to celebrate World Ocean Day!
It’s World Oceans Day, a day that provides a unique opportunity to honor and help conserve the world’s oceans.
It’s also a day when we draw attention to the importance of Arctic oceans to wildlife including polar bears, seals, beluga whales, and walruses—and to people in northern communities, too.
As part of our World Oceans Day celebration, we’re taking a look back to a live chat with Jack Omelak of the Alaska Nanuuq Commission and our own Alysa McCall.
In the video, Jack shares stories of his boyhood, the subsistence lifestyle, and the importance of sea ice and the marine ecosystem to the daily lives of indigenous Arctic people. “The ocean is our garden,” he says.
Watch the video and discover more about Arctic marine life by viewing the live Walrus Cam from our partner explore.org.
To help sustain a future for polar bears and other Arctic wildlife, please consider a donation or adoption in support of our work.
