7th Annual Wood Duck and Wilderness Festival

On May 7, 2006, over 1000 people joined together to celebrate the 7th Annual Ruby Lake Lagoon Wood Duck and Wilderness Festival. They were rewarded by a fun-filled day that included music, dancing, arts and crafts, artisans, children’s activities, guest speakers, and exhibits by conservation and community groups. Many people took advantage of the opportunity to walk from the Lagoon through the forest to visit the new Iris Griffith Centre.

The Board of Directors of the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve Society wishes to thank all of the people who contributed their time and energy to making the event such a great success, including:

  • Tony Greenfield, our early bird hike leader
  • Keith Thirkell our MC and Peter Leitz our soundman throughout the day
  • The Cogrossi family at Ruby Lake Resort who hosted the event
  • Karen and Jeremy Hunt who transported all our tables there and back
  • Local Artisans and Vendors who exhibited
  • Coast Cable TV who filmed
  • Carole, June, Solveigh, Val and friends who helped bake and attended the Children’s Arts and Crafts Corner
  • Fantastic Live Music from Gut Bucket Thunder, Soup Bean Katie, Sokole, Drums and Wires, Serena Eades and Steve K, Billy Hillpicker Band, Robert Hubele, Tangents, and First Offence
  • Bird Sound Competition and the beautiful puppets of Cody, Jennifer and Jessica
  • Displays and information from Community Groups, including Egmont Heritage Society, PH Wildlife Society, SC Astronomy Club, Friends of Sechelt Peninsula, Western Canada Wilderness Committee and SC Salmonid Enhancement Society
  • Past Time Childrens Store in Sechelt for donating book and kite prizes
  • Contributors to the Craft Corner, including Serendipity Pre School, Grips Recycling and Bottle Depot, Knitting Zen, Oak Tree Market, Pender Harbour Health Centre, and Curtis Lumber
  • Don Foster, Chris Haleta and Ben Garrett who volunteered help all day.
  • West Coast Wilderness Committee for bringing their inflatable marmot and donating the Bird Call Competition Book Prize
  • Shuttle bus courtesy of Rob Loder SC Shuttle Bus brought people to view the new Iris Griffith Interpretive Centre throughout the day
  • Kari Evelyn who helped that day at the Centre itself
  • Dave, Michelle, Dakota, Dylan and Mireille who assisted at the festival
  • Ryan Logtenberg for designing our poster, set up and sound at the event
  • Suzan Essiembre for doing so much in preparation plus attending the Lagoon Society table on the day
  • Adriane Carr, Leader of the Green Party, our guest speaker
  • Best wishes to MLA Nicholas Simons who couldn’t be with us
  • Everyone else who contributed and attended and made the day so enjoyable
