SHORELINE CLEAN-UPS: We organize regular community shoreline clean-ups to help remove garbage from the shores of our local lakes and wetlands.
RESTORATION/HABITAT ENHANCEMENT: In addition to our ongoing wetland restoration project in the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve, we also assist with restoration and habitat enhancement activities in local creeks and wetlands.
SUNSHINE COAST WETLAND PROJECT: In 2009, we launched the Sunshine Coast Wetland Project which aims to identify, classify, and map all wetlands on the Sunshine Coast. A meta-analysis will prioritize the sites and identify wetlands of greatest value and at highest risk, as well as those wetlands most in need of restoration.
WATER MANAGEMENT PLANNING: In 2006, we organized a two-day Sunshine Coast Water Summit which brought together scientists and water management professionals to exchange knowledge with local stakeholders. Speaker presentations and breakout sessions allowed participants to explore different crucial areas in drinking water management and, with the help of specialist facilitators, to consider these specifically in relation to the Sunshine Coast. |
At the Lagoon Society, we are commited to helping to take care of our precious freshwater resources on the Sunshine Coast.
EDUCATION: Workshops and displays at the Iris Griffith Centre provide the information, tools and encouragement to enable community members to take action in their own homes, gardens and wider community to conserve fresh water and prevent pollution of local lakes and rivers.
