Society Directors

Michael Dr Michael Jackson, Chair and Project Director, has a wealth of experience in conservation, wetland ecology, educational instruction, writing and project management as well as sound business acumen. As the managing director of a book business in central London and as a production manager in theatre and televison, he has the ability to work together with large teams of people to achieve a common aim. He is currently a Research Associate with Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia and runs his own wetlands consultancy that specialises in habitat restoration and natural methods of mosquito control.
John Dr John Field, is a Science Instructor at Capilano College Campus in Sechelt and a well-known local natural history expert. He is experienced in course design and programming, nature guiding and field instruction. He leads many courses and has a strong ability to bring out the most in his students.
Dale Dale Jackson, Director and Society Secretary, has been living on the Sunshine Coast since 2001. Moving here from London UK, she is keen to promote private land protection and conservation of this beautiful area. She helps coordinate the land agreements, the re-zoning application for the Centre and arrangements for the nature reserve with The Land Conservancy the conservation covenant holders. With a background in law from England she is now appointed as a Marriage commissioner on the Sunshine Coast
Ted Dr Ted Bentley was an instructor and coordinator for the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Capilano College in North Vancouver for 31 years until his retirement in 2005. During much of his working career he lived on Bowen Island where he served as a director for numerous societies and environmental organizations. In 2005 he and his wife, Mary, moved to Madeira Park and joined the Lagoon Society. He has a lifelong passion for nature and a keen interest in conservation.
Carole Carole Logtenberg earned her BSc. in Ecology and Environmental Biology at UBC where she also participated in research of the Three-spined Stickleback and Harbour Seal. After receiving her Wildlife Rehabilitation Certificate from the International Wildlife Rescue Council, she worked at the Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. where she was responsible for the rehabilitation of many wildlife species and their safe return to the wild. Carole is a Director and Secretary of the Pender Harbour Wildlife Society and is a member of numerous other conservation associations.
Tia Tia McLennan has extensive experience in community relations, fundraising, publicity and event coordination for non-profit organizations including North Island AIDS Coalition and Youth Challenge International. With a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a Certificate of Permaculture Design, Tia is a talented artist and creative designer who has designed and produced posters, fliers, murals. A skilled writer and editor, Tia initiated and edited a ‘For Youth’ section of her community newspaper.
Neil Dr. Neil Meikleham, is an environmental chemist working for a Sunshine Coast based consulting firm that specializes in the development of biological treatment systems, such as constructed wetlands, to remove contaminants from wastewater, soil, and sediments. He is interested in combining natural design, simple living skills, holistic thinking and mind-body awareness into human systems so that they become more environmentally restorative and less destructive.
Aldo Aldo Cogrossi, Executive Director, has been a steward of the Lagoon and its wildlife since 1993. He is a keen bird watcher and natural historian and has worked in rehabilitation facilities. He teaches children birdwatching skills and bird house building at the local school in Pender Harbour. Aldo and his family are generously placing conservation covenants on a large area of property surrounding the Lagoon to create the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve.
Billy Billy Griffith - Resident of Egmont B. C. for almost 70 years. Fisherman: ling cod, black cod, halibut, herring, prawns, and salmon, only prawns and salmon since license limitation. Past president Egmont community club and past president Pender Harbour and District Wildlife Club. A member of Lions club. 16 years on the board of Pender Harbour Health Centre, member of Community Health Council, board member of Fisheries Renewal, more than 20 years on salmon enhancement volunteer work, president Skookumchuck Heritage Society, and now board member of the Lagoon Society.
Brigit Brigit Garrett, Director, a resident of the Sunshine Coast since 1990, is a qualified massage therapist and a self-motivated small business proprietor. She is a mother of 3 boys and has strong ties and commitment to the Pender Harbour community. For many years she has been a volunteer with the Madeira Park Elementary School.
