The Iris Griffith Interpretive Centre is an educational resource, providing many exciting community and school programs. These include an innovative Nature School program for elementary and secondary school students, along with community interpretive programs including children’s activities, workshops, guided nature walks and field trips, and public slide shows, lectures and videos. For the younger crowd, the Lagoonies Club meets weekly at the Iris Griffith Centre. Kids ages 4-13 are invited to play, explore and make new friends, while learning about the natural world.

In 2007, the Society began a Sunshine Coast Faunal Survey. The goal of the project is to help maintain, conserve and enhance wildlife diversity on the Sunshine Coast by conducting comprehensive faunal surveys, identifying and prioritizing key sites for wildlife, communicating findings and management recommendations with land managers and agencies, and undertaking public outreach activities. With an emphasis on threatened and endangered species, the research focuses on important vertebrate groups for which few surveys have been conducted.

A wetland restoration project is underway to create a 10-acre wetland complex adjacent to the Centre. The restored wetlands will provide important habitat for breeding waterfowl, and other fish and wildlife species, and offer tremendous recreational and educational value to visitors to the Centre.
