May 2008

Sunday May 4, 10AM-2PM, Green Roof Workshop. Part of our Greening Your Home Workshop Series. Green or living roofs are part of a new wave of construction techniques designed to create environmentally friendly buildings. The main benefits of green roofs are greater insulating value, summertime cooling and natural carbon dioxide reduction. Basically a green roof reduces the footprint that a building has on the earth. Would you want a green roof? That depends on many factors, many of which will be examined at the upcoming Green Roof Workshop being held at the Iris Griffith Centre. John Dafoe, designer of the Iris Griffith Centre, will facilitate the workshop. There will be a hands on portion in which participants will be able to assemble cells of plantings that will be applied to a demonstration roof. Please bring a lunch and, if you prefer, gloves for the hands-on portion. The cost is $20, or $10 if you are a member. People may register in advance by calling 604-883-9201.
