The Iris Griffith Centre is currently seeking enthusiastic candidates for the following position:
IRIS GRIFFITH CENTRE ASSISTANT
(July 7th - August 29th, 2008. Salary: $10/hr, 40 hrs per week)
Job Description: This position will enable the student to learn about the design and delivery of community environmental education and interpretive programs, for both children and adults. The Centre Assistant will:
- Assist with educational and cultural programs, events, and interpretive activities at the Iris Griffith Centre, including children’s programs, green building tours, guided nature walks, educational workshops and special community events;
- Act as a docent at the Iris Griffith Centre to assist and answer questions for visiting tourists, school groups, and community members
- Assist with retail sales at the Iris Griffith Centre shop
- Assist in building and landscape maintenance
Skills and Experience:
We are seeking a highly-motivated high school student or recent high school graduate, who plans to pursue post-secondary studies in the fields of Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Education. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communications skills and knowledge and interest in local ecology and conservation issues.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must
- be between 15 AND 30 YEARS OF AGE at the start of the employment;
- have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Preference will be given to Aboriginal students and students who are members of visible minorities.
