The Design and Building Committee

John John Dafoe, Building Designer. Handyman, guide, consultant and conservationist. John is a 35-year resident of the south Sunshine Coast and has guided there for more than 25 years. He is a member of the Pender Harbour & District Wildlife Society and has provided public wilderness tours in the region since 1990. John is occupied at present with the Coastal Eelgrass Mapping Project and has also done maritime habitat inventory work for BC Parks. He is a founding member of the Friends of Caren and helped create Spipyus Provincial Park in the Caren Range on Sechelt Peninsula. John was involved in the recent successful campaign to conserve Ambrose Lake Ecological Reserve and has worked with both Terminal Forest Products and Fisheries and Oceans Canada to improve log dumping practices into marine environments, road-building profiles and the establishment of old growth and wildlife management areas on the Sechelt Peninsula
Jim Jim Ross, Construction Manager. Jim has been coming to the Sunshine Coast since the 60’s and moved here permanently for the second time in 1992. With over 65 million in construction experience, he still enjoys a challenging project. An avid technologist he programmed an integrated construction software system which he sold commercially for many years. The integration of soft tech and high tech with regards to energy conservation is an avid pursuit. For the past two years he has been taking courses in software programming for a variety of uses including the design and construction of a prototype boat.
John Dr John Field, is a Science Instructor at Capilano College Campus in Sechelt and a well-known local natural history expert. He is experienced in course design and programming, nature guiding and field instruction. He leads many courses and has a strong ability to bring out the most in his students. He is also gifted with a good head for figures and is the treasuruer of both the RLLNRS and the SCCA.
Michael Dr Michael Jackson, Chair and Project Director, has a wealth of experience in conservation, wetland ecology, educational instruction, writing and project management as well as sound business acumen. As the managing director of a book business in central London and as a production manager in theatre and televison, he has the ability to work together with large teams of people to achieve a common aim. He is currently a Research Associate with Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia and runs his own wetlands consultancy that specialises in habitat restoration and natural methods of mosquito control.
Suzan Suzan Essiembre, Suzan brings to the team many years of experience in administrative infrastructure, financial planning, construction and environmental auditing. As a former Certified Environmental Inspector, she conducted numerous environmental site assessments on residential, commercial and industrial properties. She was a former Personnel Manager for a large Canadian law firm and an Internal Audit Manager for a Canadian Property Investment Corporation where she managed a huge investor portfolio. Suzan was on the Board of Directors for the Peace and Environment Resource Centre where she played an important role on the Fundraising Committee and locally she has helped in the protection of the Halfmoon Bay Creek property for salmon restoration.
