The Natural World: An Artists' Celebration

To deepen appreciation and understanding of artistic expression related to the natural environment, the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve Society worked in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Arts Council to organize and host a six-month Art meets Nature Celebration at the Iris Griffith Interpretive Centre from April to September 2007.

The Celebration featured Sunshine Coast artists whose work relates to the natural environment. Each month, different artists spent time in-residence at the Centre where they worked, exhibited, and participated in various community outreach activities. In addition, each artist created a piece of art for permanent display at the Centre. The intent was to help audiences explore the relationship between arts, culture and the natural world.

The Artists' Celebration received generous funding support from the Spirit of BC Arts Fund, the 2010 Arts Now Catalyst Program, the McLean Foundation, the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation and from an Aboriginal Arts Development Award to artist Dionne Paul.

The Lagoon Society is very grateful to the generous contributions of the many private individuals, businesses, foundations, community groups, corporations, and government agencies that make up our many sponsors. We gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia.
